Lasting Results Session 2 Part 10 Spiritually fit! Persecution! Responsibilities! Teachings that stick!

Welcome everyone!

This teaching is in document form only, with special features.

Note: To maintain focus, read everything on the page before viewing the videos and going to the links. Thank you.

(1) Let us begin another part of the series, “Lasting results”. (Session 2)

(2) Remember what I said in the past. If the value of the activity is high enough, we will have the determination to do it.

(3) Consider these verses involving the value of training.

1 Timothy 4:7-8
7 But refuse and avoid irreverent legends (profane and impure and godless fictions, mere grandmothers' tales) and silly myths, and express your disapproval of them. Train yourself toward godliness (piety), [keeping yourself spiritually fit].

8 For physical training is of some value (useful for a little), but godliness (spiritual training) is useful and of value in everything and in every way, for it holds promise for the present life and also for the life which is to come. AMP

(4) Note: The King James Version (KJV) uses the word “Exercise” the Amplified (Amp) Bible uses the word “Train”.

1 Timothy 4:7-8
7 But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. 8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. (KJV)

(5) Greek definition for the word “exercise”: NT: #1128: to control oneself by thorough discipline - 'to discipline oneself, to keep oneself disciplined.' 'Keep yourself disciplined for a godly life' 1 Tim 4:7. In a number of languages the equivalent of 'to discipline oneself' is literally 'to make oneself obey.'
(From Greek-English Lexicon Based on Semantic Domain)

(6) Greek definition for the word “exercise”: NT: #1128 to exercise vigorously, in any way, either the body or the mind, of one who strives earnestly to become godly, 1 Timothy 4:7;
(From Thayer's Greek Lexicon)

(7) As we move forward keep in mind this verse.

2 Timothy 3:12
12 Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. NKJV

(8) Now we shift to the responsibilities of the teacher and the congregation.

(9) Teacher’s responsibilities. The fear of God should be here.

(10) Should teachers in the body of Christ expect the same results as Jesus if we do not do as He did?

(11) Realize, there are many things to learn in God’s word to assist us in our walk with the Lord.

(12) My responsibility as a teacher in the body of Christ is to teach and provide spiritual nourishment for God’s people. Also, to help build the body of Christ! (See video below, car analogy)

(13) Since we (Pastors and teachers) cannot teach everything at once we break them down into subjects or topics. (Spiritual meals)

(14) Keep in mind, there are different styles of teaching and each teacher is different and gifted in various ways.

(15) Here are some goals as teachers.

(16) Be diligent and consistent in our study of God’s word.

17) Be creative.

(18) Have variety.

(19) Make it tasty.

(20) Hit the target of need.

(21) Present it in a way that causes life change in those who hear.

(22) Now let me provide you with the congregation’s responsibility.

(23) Have the desire to learn.

(24) Maintain spiritual sharpness at home during the week.

(25) Do not wear ourselves out because of spiritual dullness.

(26) Spiritual sharpness will prepare us to receive from the teaching with lasting results.

(27) Realize that spiritual sharpness preserves strength. It preserves strength for us and for those who instruct us.

(28) This following character quality will help us.

(29) Sharpness vs. Dullness
“Incorporating or assimilating God’s word in my life on a daily basis to avoid wasteful use of the strength God has given to me and to those who teach me.” (VM)

(30) Consider these portions of God's word.

Ecclesiastes 10:10

“If the iron is blunt, and one does not whet the edge, he must put forth more strength; but wisdom helps one to succeed.” RSV

Ecclesiastes 10:10
“A dull axe requires great strength; be wise and sharpen the blade.” TLB

Hebrews 5:11-14
11 “About this we have much to say which is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. 12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need some one to teach you again the first principles of God's word. You need milk, not solid food; 13 for every one who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a child. 14 But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their faculties trained by practice to distinguish good from evil.” RSV

(31) Our teaching emphasis now, is how to make a teaching stick.

(32) Keep this in mind as you continue to read. The “Engrafting Process” is necessary.

(33) Many times, the subjects that are taught do not stick long.

(34) They come and go. One teaching to the next.

(35) Therefore, how do we cause a teaching to stick to the point of life change?

(36) In other words, how do we manifest real long-lasting results?

(37) I believe that the Father gave me the answer.

(38) This is what the Father was saying to me.

(39) "Unless the engrafting process takes place there will be no change in the believer."

(40) It will be another, “Great teaching Pastor!” But no change once again in the life of the believer.

(41) Without the engrafting process we see people not growing spiritually
yet physically old.

(42) There are church members who attend a congregation for years but there is no change.

(43) Pastors and teachers work hard throughout the years and like Jesus, desire results.

(44) Ask any Pastor or teacher and see if this is true.

(45) As a Pastor and teacher, I can say that this is true.

(46) Therefore, one main question in this teaching is, “How can we make what we learn to stick or bring about Godly results?"

(47) I just gave the answer based on what I believe God said to me.

(48) Engraft God’s word into our life.

(49) This includes the excellent character qualities of Jesus.

(50) However, once we engraft God’s word into our life maintenance is required.

(51) In other words, spiritual sharpness throughout the week is essential. (Watch last video below)

(52) There are methods to do this, but I cannot go there at this time.

(53) Also, at this point I will not include everything there is about the engrafting process.

(54) However, I will give at least the first step to the engrafting process in our next teaching.
